One of our absolute favorite travel planning techniques is storyboard journaling! Whether you’re gearing up for a family getaway, a girls’ trip, or even a solo adventure, this technique is like a secret sauce for igniting everyone’s wanderlust and crafting an experience that’s tailor-made for each traveler.
Storyboard journaling isn’t just some boring planning method. Oh no! It’s a creative journey that we’ve used to outline travel plans for our women’s group travels, WanderBridge, our cultural and social immersion student program, and the destination management services we offer for retreat hosts.
So, are you ready to dive in? Here’s what each traveler will need: a large sheet of paper or poster board, markers, colored pencils, crayons, travel magazines or brochures, glue or tape, scissors, and some travel destination books or internet access for research (optional).
Let’s break it down into six easy steps for each traveler to follow:
- Choose a Destination: Picture yourself exploring a bustling city, lounging in a serene countryside, or gazing in awe at a breathtaking natural landmark. Pick a spot that speaks to your wanderlust soul!
- Research and Inspiration: Dive into the wonderful world of travel magazines, brochures, or websites. Snip out pictures, articles, or advertisements that spark joy and represent the experiences you’re yearning for.
- Creating the Storyboard: Channel your inner artist as you divide your paper or poster board into sections. Each section is a frame waiting to be filled with the magic of your upcoming adventure!
- Visualizing the Journey: Let your imagination run wild as you use markers, colored pencils, or crayons to bring your travel dreams to life. Whether it’s sketching out iconic landmarks or doodling your dream activities, this is where the magic happens.
- Sharing and Discussion: Once everyone’s storyboard is complete, gather your fellow adventurers and share your creations. Get ready for some lively discussions as each person explains their choices and dive into what excites them most about their chosen destination.
- Reflection and Planning: With everyone’s interests and dreams on the table, it’s time to start planning your epic itinerary. Remember to keep things flexible, allowing room for spontaneity and unexpected discoveries along the way!
