Let’s talk about keeping the money flowing between us, ladies.
As someone who has created a high quality community of women and nonbinary entrepreneurs and business owners over the past nine years, I’m often asked for advice on how to support our fellow women in business.
Sometimes that means product or event collaborations, sharing each other’s content on social media, showing up at their event, or even blowing off steam at happy hour. But what’s the easiest, most direct way to support each other? Hire her / them!
Keep the money flowing between us!

As a fellow woman business owner, I’ve seen firsthand how hiring women isn’t just a nice idea—it’s a total game-changer for our businesses and our communities. When we invest in women, we’re not just cutting paychecks or paying invoices—we’re building an ecosystem of growth, support, and opportunity.
First off, women get it done. You want a multitasker? A creative thinker? Someone who sees a problem and solves it before it even hits your radar? Women bring that energy. And when we hire each other, we’re creating workplaces where our strengths are celebrated, not overlooked. That’s powerful.
But it’s not just about business (even though the stats back us up—companies with diverse teams outperform the competition). It’s about keeping the wealth circulating between us. Think about it: when women have financial independence, we reinvest in our families, our communities, and other women-owned businesses. That’s a ripple effect that benefits everyone.
When I hire another woman, I’m not just building my team—I’m creating opportunities for her to grow, thrive, and pay it forward. She’s spending her paycheck at local businesses, funding her kids’ dreams, and maybe even starting her own side hustle someday. It’s a cycle of empowerment that just keeps giving.

I know there’s this unspoken idea sometimes that women are “competing” against each other, but that’s a myth we’ve got to kick to the curb. Collaboration is where the magic happens. When we work together, we’re unstoppable.
So, next time you’re hiring, think about what that decision really means. It’s not just about filling a role—it’s about building the future we want to see. A future where women thrive together.
Keep in mind, as women, moms, business owners, and heads of household, statistically most of us get to choose where our dollars go. Here are a two tips to help you keep the money flowing between us…
Get over sticker shock.
Shopping local often ain’t cheap, and it’s important to acknowledge that. We’re proud to support so many women who sell their services and products right here in Los Angeles.
They head down to the garment district, wheel and deal over the cost of fabrics and textiles to get their customers the best prices, and then they actually have to make the damn thing. After all of the energy and effort that goes into manufacturing products locally and in small quantities, they deserve to turn a profit. You just can’t have Walmart prices when you make and source your products locally.
The same principle applies for service-based businesses. Pay women what they’re worth! If someone’s prices are too high for your budget, that’s okay. The pricing is a reflection of their knowledge, expertise, time, tools, and supplies. Ask if they have any recommendations for service providers who may not have as much experience and charge accordingly. (Don’t be that person who tries to make another business owner feel bad about their pricing and claim you can make the cake yourself for less.)
Stop giving away your shit for free.
Seriously! When you give away your products or services for free, you are prostituting all of us.
I’ll say it again. Make sure you’re listening. Stop giving away your skills, talents, and expertise for FREE.
Sure, give samples for free to introduce new people to your work, but don’t give away the whole damn thing you’ve spent months working so hard on.
First and foremost, you’re being unkind to yourself by undervaluing YOU, your work, and your time.
Second of all, it undervalues all of us. You’re not doing anyone any favors by handing your shit out.
Third, friends don’t ask for things for free – they respect and understand how hard you work and want to support your business. That’s why they are our friends.
So trade, barter, exchange, give a discount, but don’t design someone’s home or website for free.
Oh, was I supposed to sugarcoat that? Ha! Nope.
Let’s keep the money moving, the doors open, and the momentum going. I really believe that we can maximize our community’s potential by supporting one another. This is exactly why one of the core values of BRA Network is we hire each other first!
